Our Commitments

We do it with purpose. Our commitments are the pillars of this business, and we're only just beginning. Sustainability, inclusivity, and transparency matter deeply to us. As we grow, we invite you to grow with us. Reach out to us on what commitments matter to you.

Our responsibility is to make clothes in a better way. Better materials, better processes, better design.
In addition to responsible manufacturing, we are committed to waste reduction. During the pre-production process, our patterns are arranged to minimize waste. Any excess materials will be donated for repurposing, and we will be sourcing new fibers in 2021 that allow for circular fashion implementation.

All people - from our customers to our crafters - deserve fair treatment and respect.
Every garment is manufactured here in the U.S.A. by skilled sewers. During the product development and small-batch manufacturing process, we intentionally partner with businesses that guarantee fair treatment and above-minimum wage pay for all workers. Our makers’ talent and work should be rewarded, not exploited. Each partner has implemented safety measures to help protect workers. Additionally, we support intersectional environmentalist values, in that we advocate for protection of both people and the planet. Akala publicly endorsed amendment SB62 in California for the Garment Worker Protection Act, which establishes fair hourly wages and abolishes piece-rate payment; this was passed in 2021.

We will continue to strengthen our commitment to help protect the planet, through our materials, operations, communities and partners.
We are thoroughly researching how we can lessen our footprint and create clothes that are more circular in our next collection. For instance, we're striving to include more cotton blend options, as it is biodegradable and circular supply chain options exist for cotton waste. Additionally, no animal products will be used in the creation of our products, ever. We are increasingly excited about the developments in bio-materials, and we will look to those as alternatives when applicable.

Every person deserves to have quality clothing items that bring them joy.
Goodbye, trendy one-offs. Goodbye, clothes designed without purpose and inclusive fit. We want to make our clothes accessible, while made with high quality in the USA. You won't find us wholesaling - instead you get the savings. Sustainable fashion can be accessible.

Our clothes and community will be built to both inspire and uplift.
We're in it together - the small actions of our sustainable choices can make a collective impact. Fashion doesn't have to be surface-level; it's about expression, imagination and celebration. Working to better impact the planet is no small feat, but we can have fun and look great in the process.
